The meeting with members of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission focused on the reform of the energy sector of Ukraine, the strengthening of economic cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine, as well as preparations for the 4th Ukraine Reform Conference to be held next year in Vilnius. President Sassoli opened the October II plenary session in Strasbourg. The European Council appointed Christine Lagarde to be the President of the European Central Bank for a non-renewable term of 8 years. President Gitanas Nausėda is attending the European Council meeting which endorsed the Brexit deal between the United Kingdom and the European Union. For final implementation, the deal needs to be ratified by the European and British parliaments. On 16 October in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Ukrainian delegation headed by the Kherson Oblast Governor Yuriy Husyev. The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine, prospects for economy and tourism development in Kherson Oblast, as well as protection of Lithuania's historical and cultural heritage in the region. Commission and EU countries have to beef up social rights by delivering on the EU Pillar of Social Rights with legislative proposals and adequate funding. On 10 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the new British Ambassador to Lithuania Brian Olley. On its official visit to Yerevan, Armenia, the Seimas delegation under the leadership of Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Armen Sarkissian, President of the Republic of Armenia; Ararat Mirzoyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia; and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
