PoliticsLithuania’s Permanent Representative to World Trade Organization presents his letters of credence2019-08-31, 14:01On 30 August, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Donatas Tamulaitis presented his letters of credence to the Director-General Roberto Azevêdo in Geneva. President Gitanas Nausėda will take part in the events marking the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II in Warsaw, Poland. The commemorations will be attended by more than 20 world leaders, including the presidents of Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Slovakia, Latvia, Iceland, Hungary, Ukraine, and Georgia. On 28 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius received the outgoing British Ambassador to Lithuania Claire Lawrence. President Gitanas Nausėda met with João Gomesu Cravinho, Minister of Defense of Portugal. The President and the Minister discussed the security situation in the region as well as in Europe, opportunities for enhanced cooperation on cyber security and the forthcoming summit of the Alliance to be held in London. The Seimas adopted amendments to the Law on Elections to the Seimas providing for the establishment of a single-member constituency for Lithuanian expatriates. The new provisions of the Law were adopted by 88 votes in favour, with 4 votes against and 14 abstentions. At the meeting of the Lithuanian and Estonian Presidents − focus on energy security in the Baltic region2019-08-21, 12:54President Gitanas Nausėda met with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and President of the Riigikogu Henn Põlluaas during the visit to Estonia. The two Presidents discussed bilateral political and economic relations, strengthening of the Baltic trilateral cooperation, security situation in the Baltic region, NATO and EU agenda, including negotiations on the new EU financial framework. President Gitanas Nausėda and his wife Diana Nausėdienė visited German Presidential residence where they met with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender. During their meeting held after the official photo and signing of documents, the two Presidents discussed possible actions by European leaders aimed at strengthening the transatlantic relationship in the fields of security and economic cooperation. Prime Ministers of the Baltic States to mark the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way in Riga2019-08-15, 14:09On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has invited Jüri Ratas, Prime Minister of Estonia, and Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of Lithuania, to visit Latvia on 23 August. The officials will hold a meeting, as well as attend celebration events, informed Sabīne Spurķe Press Secretary to Cabinet of Ministers. President Gitanas Nausėda and the First Lady will travel to Germany. In Berlin, the President will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The visit, scheduled for August 14-15, will focus on defense, the EU agenda and bilateral cooperation across economic and financial areas, services and innovation. An individual programme has been planned for the First Lady. |
