“Over fifteen years of our ASEM membership, we have successfully developed the relationship with our Asian partners, striving to jointly tackle global challenges and to open up new opportunities for strengthening our economies and improving people’s well-being. We called on all ASEM countries to work together in the field of women’s economic empowerment in 2017. In 2019, Lithuania initiated an ASEM dialogue on transport,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister.
As regards Lithuania’s contribution to the development of the relationship between Europe and Asia, the Foreign Vice-Minister said that the digital economy had become the fastest growing sector of Lithuania’s economy. In addition, financial technologies have been developed successfully, as well as the program for women’s inclusion in the information technology-based economy, which helps women to pursue their careers and to ensure gender equality in the labor market.
N. Germanas also presented Lithuania’s initiatives to strengthen joint efforts to ensure cyber security and to protect our information space and stop the spread of online disinformation.
ASEM brings together 30 European countries, 21 Asian countries, the EU, and the ASEAN Secretariat. It is a forum for dialogue and cooperation between Europe and Asia.
Lithuania became a member of ASEM in 2004.
