Another meeting of the political council of the ruling coalition in Lithuania took place on Monday. Partners of the coalition discussed three issues included into the agenda of the meeting. Meeting was chaired on a rotating basis by Valdemar Tomaševski, leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, Member of the European Parliament.

On 27 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov. The meeting focused on prospects for further bilateral cooperation, the Kazakh-EU relations, security situation and regional cooperation in Central Asia.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erlan Idrissov. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and opportunities to advance cooperation in economic, transport, innovation and other spheres.

Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, addresses the Ukrainian government and, first and foremost, Volodymyr Rybak, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and urges them to cease using violence against the EuroMaidan protesters and settle the crisis through negotiations.

Parliamentary faction of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (EAPL) has distributed a letter to the leader of the Lithuanian state Dalia Grybauskaitė, where it appeals to take on the dialogue and pay attention to problems which national minorities are facing in the country.

Members of Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania - Rita Tamašunienė, Vanda Kravčionok, Zbignev Jedinskij, Michal Mackevič, Jaroslav Narkevič, Leonard Talmont, Irina Rozova, Juzef Kvetkovskij - have distributed their appeal to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Mrs Astrid Thors, to the President of the European Parliament Mr Martin Schulz and to the President of the European Commission Mr José Manuel Barroso. In the appeal the deputies request to immediately take all the measures in order to defend national minorities' rights in Lithuania.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has extended his greetings to Laimdota Straujuma on her appointment as new Prime Minister of Latvia.

Clandestine migrants from the EU to Turkey or Turkey to the EU would have to be returned under an EU-Turkey "readmission" agreement signed by both parties on 16 December and endorsed by the Civil Liberties Committee on Wednesday. The return rule would apply not only to EU nationals and Turks, but also to third-country nationals who enter either the EU or Turkey via the other.
