German sustainable construction company Nokera has signed an investment agreement with the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation, which plans to invest EUR 41.1 million in the construction of its new plant in Rudamina (Vilnius district). The plant is expected to create 300 new jobs over the next few years, of which approximately half will be dedicated to engineering workers with higher education.

The contractor to build local roads on the new Rail Baltica rail section Šveicarija-Žeimiai in Jonava district has been announced. The winning tender of EUR 6.6 million excl. VAT, in the procurement announced by the company LTG Infra responsible for the implementation of the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania, was submitted by AB Eurovia Lietuva.

This year the Bank of Lithuania intends to carry out inspections of 26 financial market participants to assess their compliance with legal requirements. They have been selected in accordance with the principles of risk-based supervision and expert assessment. In addition, the Bank of Lithuania will select up to 50 financial market participants for thematic analyses.

Lithuania sees great potential in the North Sea-Baltic Corridor for cooperation with Poland and freight transport to Western European countries. Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Julius Skačkauskas expressed this position of Lithuania at the annual “Europe of the Carpathians” conference of the Carpathian countries taking place in Poland on 5-6 February.

A new procedure enabling adequate representation of Lithuanian carriers’ interests in bilateral negotiations regarding permits for international transport of goods and passengers is in force since January.

The Government approved the infrastructure development plan for the Vilnius-Klaipėda railway and Klaipėda railway junction – the section from Klaipėda to Draugystės station. According to the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the electrified railway infrastructure network will meet the technical and transport needs of the European Union and reduce the negative impact of transport on the environment.

This year, the master development plans for the country’s three airports will be prepared at the Lithuanian airports. A procurement procedure for architectural solutions for the future development of Vilnius Airport is expected to be announced later. The preparation of the plan and the coordination of a clear decision on the fate of the cultural heritage to be preserved at Vilnius Airport’s arrival terminal would allow to formulate the task for architects more clearly and speed up the development works on the terminals.
