President Dalia Grybauskaitė conveyed her heartfelt condolences to President Reuven Rivlin of the State of Israel and to all the people of the country on the passing of former President, Nobel Prize winner, Shimon Peres.

On 26 September at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas took part in the Lithuanian-Dutch event – the IPDC Talks. UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) organized a series of talks within the framework of the first International Day for Universal Access to Information on 28 September. The talks, among other things, aim to show that independent media, safety and protection of journalists are key to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in their totality.

While on his visit to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, on 23 September 2016, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, had a meeting with Hanna Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, and signed a memorandum on bilateral political consultations where the ministers stated the commitment of the foreign ministries of Lithuania and Ghana to hold regular consultations on bilateral and international matters.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, who attends the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, met with leaders and representatives of major world and American Jewish organizations at the Consulate General of Lithuania on 21 September in New York.

From Syrian refugees on their way to being resettled to Europe to Palestine refugees who have been living in camps for years: members from the civil liberties committee delegation got to speak to many different people during their fact-finding mission to Lebanon on 19-22 September. They were there to assess the situation to help prepare future rules on the resettlement of refugees. They also spoke to representatives of local NGOs and large international organisations.

On 23 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir on the National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met with Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly Ministerial Week in New York on 21 September.

On 20 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, who is participating in the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a mechanism for bilateral consultations. The agreement provides for the promotion of the Lithuania-Cuba political dialogue and mutual cooperation. The two countries will hold consultations to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues.

On 19 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius continued his visit to New York City, where he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo Enver Hoxhaj and the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki.

Federica Mogherini, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met on Sunday with the Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi on the margins of the United Nations' General Assembly Ministerial Week in New York.
