On 17 November 2017, the EU-U.S. Ministerial Meeting on Justice and Home Affairs took place in Washington, D.C. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of the long standing partnership between the United States of America and the European Union in addressing common threats to security, and of practical outcomes of this cooperation.

On 16 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius continued his visit to Singapore and met with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and the Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Osman Maliki to discuss topical issues of the regional and global political agenda and cooperation in multilateral formats. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of expanding political dialogue, intensifying relations in the fields of science and innovation, and invited the Foreign Minister Balakrishnan to visit Lithuania. Linkevičius also called for the appointment of Singapore’s Honorary Consul in Lithuania.

On November 15 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis took part in the 2017 UN Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial in Vancouver, Canada, where Lithuania’s contribution to the United Nations Operation MINUSMA in composition of the German Contingent was presented as an example of “smart commitment” and the Minister was invited to speak at the main session of the meeting.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė leaves for Gothenburg, Sweden, to attend the Social Summit aimed at enhancing social security of Europeans. To this end, the EU leaders will discuss measures to be undertaken by the member states and the entire EU in reducing social exclusion, fighting against unemployment and ensuring fair working conditions.

“The revised NATO Command Structure has to reflect the changed security situation in Europe: the Alliance has to be capable of a swift and robust response and of countering both, conventional and hybrid threats,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said on November 8 at the NATO Defence Ministers meeting in Brussels. The main session of the meeting addressed the revision of the NATO Command Structure among other issues.
