SocietyHorizontal drilling works for laying gas pipes under the River Neris and, later, the River Nemunas – one of the most difficult processes in the Gas Interconnector Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) project – are set to begin next month. Litgrid and PSE, the power transmission system operators of Lithuania and Poland, have broadly agreed on tasks pertaining to the implementation of Harmony Link, a 683 million euros worth project on the construction of a submarine cable between Lithuania and Poland. Nemencine, a town near Vilnius that has become a coronavirus hotspot, will remain sealed off until Friday night. The Cabinet decided on Wednesday to keep the restrictions on entering and leaving the town, imposed last Thursday, in place until 11:59 p.m. on April 24. Lithuanian prosecutors have closed their investigation into suspicions that France's Alstom bribed Lithuanian officials more than a decade ago to win public procurement contracts and ensure unhindered implementation of projects. |
