Parliament Speaker Loreta Grauziniene tried to calm the activists of the Lithuanian Pensioners' Party (LPP) by promising that pensions that were reduced during the crisis will be reinstated based on financial capabilities of the state.

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite has forwarded the Seimas her amendments to the Civil Code which seek to reduce the number of children who are put to child care homes, as well as to promote adoption.

The president's amendments suggest limiting the practice of putting children under 3 years to child care homes. The youngest children would be sent to guardianship institutions only in exceptional cases when they need specialised health care or nursing. Also, in those cases when the child's family cannot provide him/her with proper care and community services in their municipality are not properly developed.
