Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has had a remote conversation with Ambassador of Spain José María Robles Fraga, and has discussed challenges posed by the pandemic as well as the development of bilateral relations.

Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas is attending the NATO Defence Ministers Meeting held on February 17 –18 to address NATO‘s most topical issues. In the session of February 17 the NATO Ministers focussed on enhancing NATO deterrence and defence and fairer burden sharing.

On February 17–18 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas will take part in the virtual NATO Defence Ministerial which is planned to focus on running issues of the Alliance, including multinational NATO operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, importance of sharing the financial burden in NATO, strengthening of deterrence and defence.

On February 8 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas had a distance meeting with his Baltic counterparts, Minister of Defence of Latvia Artis Pabriks and Minister of Defence of Estonia Kalle Laanet: Baltic Security and Defence Cooperation Presidency 2021 was rotated from Latvia to Lithuania and Lithuania’s priorities in the area were presented at the meeting.

MEPs approved the EU’s key instrument to help countries recover from Covid-19, debated the vaccines situation and called for tighter recycling rules.

President Gitanas Nausėda received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Alexey Isakov.

Gitanas Nausėda spoke by phone with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to discuss security and defense in Lithuania and the Baltic region in preparation for the upcoming NATO summit, the strengthening of deterrence against threats in the Baltic region, and recommendations for the NATO2030 strategy.

To fight inequality and in-work poverty, MEPs call for a minimum wage, equal labour conditions for platform workers and a better work-life balance.

On 8 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Elżbieta Witek, the Marshal of the Sejm, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau on his first visit to Poland.
