After defeating 65 thousand kilometers, visiting the space and Lake Baikal, the Olympic torch arrived in Sochi, where on Friday, 7th February, the Winter Games will begin. Before the opening ceremony, even 300 people, including many celebrities, will raise the torch.

On Tuesday, Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite saw off Lithuanian athletes to the Sochi Olympic Games which will be taking place on February 7-23 in Sochi.

On 17th January 2014 in Krvavec (Slovenia) a giant slalom competition took place, where 19-years-old Ieva Januškevičiūtė, who is preparing for the Sochi Olympic Games, had taken part. She finished ninth out of twenty in the national category of women's giant slalom competition (1:52:31) in the first race. Slovenian Naja Babnik was the one to win (1:43.76) and famous violinist Vanessa Vanakorn, known as Vanessa Mae, was just behind the Lithuanian competitor (1:52.75).

„Žalgiris" of Kaunas was playing with „Maccabi" of Tel Aviv last Thursday in Euroleague. First 35 minutes of the game were an undoubtful success of the hosting team „Žalgiris". However, later on their colleagues and opponents from Tel Aviv had won an important part of the match with the result 9:0.

Monthly magazine Valstybe has announced Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte as the person of the year. For four years the magazine has selected people who the editorial office deems having made the greatest contribution to the development of economically and civically strong state.
