Last July, Viktorija Balčiūnaitė, a student of Kaunas University of Technology Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (KTU FSSAH), went to study in the Netherlands for half a year. Little did she know, that this study exchange will her provide with the opportunity to take up an important position in an international company would arise so soon.

Education Exchanges Support Foundation is opening a Call for Applications for 70 Lithuanian State Scholarships for full-time Master’s degree or integrated studies at Lithuanian higher education institutions for the year 2021. The deadline for the 1st selection round is MAY 7, 2021.

Last week the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 have been announced, according to which Vilnius University (VU) remains among the top 500 best universities of the world in three study fields. This year, VU was rated in 36 study fields out of 51. Apparently, the university managed to consistently retain high scores. For the first time, VU was ranked in the field of economics and econometrics.

March 4th-5th, 2021, the annual Polish-Lithuanian colloquium, “Challenges of States and Law During the COVID-19 Period” took place. The event was organized by the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the School of Law of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).

The recent KTU video introducing the University to the wider public has already received over 180 thousand views. However, aiming the reach the most remote corners of the globe, the University’s marketing team added the subtitles in 22 different languages to the video.

According to the Association of Lithuanian Banks, phishers caused damage of more than EUR 4.5 million to the Lithuanian population during the past year. This was done by using fraudulent e-mails and messages to tempt people to invest in financial schemes. Meanwhile, a report issued by Risk Based Security revealed that there were over 37 billion records compromised in 2020, representing a 141% increase compared to the number in 2019.

The first image of the black hole in galaxy M87 that appeared almost two years ago awakened the curiosity even of those who had little interest in astronomy. The object, located in a vast expanse of space that is hard to imagine, is reminiscent of a red-eye with a black pupil and is just one of the numerous supermassive black holes in the Universe. This was explained by Kastytis Zubovas, an associated professor at the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University (VU) and an astrophysicist, in the podcast Science without Preaching (“Mokslas be pamokslų“). The scientist, whose field of research is black holes, explains how this exotic matter appears, disappears, and whether it can pose risk to humanity.
