The meeting also discussed further cooperation opportunities.
"France is an important political and economical partner for Lithuania and a strong ally in NATO. You are one of the major trade partners, however, the potential has not been used – we see broad opportunities in the area of investment," Butkevicius said.
The Lithuanian prime minister met with First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans to discuss migration challenges for Europe, especially its southern countries, and for its border security. Timmermans informed the Lithuanian prime minister about the European Commission's measures that were undertaken striving to overcome border security issues in Southern Europe.
The meeting emphasised that recent events in Syria force people to flee their homes and increase migration flow to Europe.
