The Consulate will be headed by the lawyer Philippe Suinen, former long-time CEO of the Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency (AWEX), who is well-known in Belgian political and business circles.
During the opening ceremony, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Belgium Gediminas Varvuolis reviewed the successful cooperation between Lithuania and Wallonia under the three-year programme and expressed his belief that the new Honorary Consul would definitely promote the implementation of specific bilateral projects in the fields of business, culture and education.
The Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Arvydas Daunoravičius, the Chairman of the Lithuanian community in Belgium Arnoldas Pranckevičius, representatives of the city of Charleroi, the province of Hainaut, the Federation of Belgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Wallonia-Brussels International Cooperation Agency, the Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency, Charleroi Airport, local politicians and honorary consuls attended the opening ceremony.
The high-ranking guests and representatives of Wallonia drew attention to various links between Lithuania and Wallonia, and congratulated Lithuania on the appointment of Suinen as the new Honorary Consul of Lithuania.
