airBaltic spokesperson Janis Vanags told the Latvian Television show "Rita panorama" that alcohol tests are carried out randomly. However, they are much stricter than those in other European Union countries.
Such tests are conducted every day. At the moment, the number of alcohol tests has been increased fourfold.
Vanags stressed that this is the first such incident in the company's history.
The airBaltic representative could not provide any additional facts about the case, as the detained crew can be contacted only through their lawyers.
If the investigation proves the crew's guilt, these people will no longer be working at airBaltic, said Vanags. He added that the crew in question is very experienced.
