During their meeting, the President underlined that economic, cultural and political relations between Lithuania and Georgia were growing increasingly stronger. She pointed out that Georgia was Lithuania's key economic partner in the South Caucasus; therefore, bilateral business relations and investment should be actively promoted and developed.
According to the President, it is necessary to continue working consistently to further increase Lithuania's visibility and good image in Georgia. We need to uphold our support to Georgian government's efforts for ensuring territorial integrity as well as to contribute to enhancing Georgia's security at the regional and international levels, the President said.
Dalia Grybauskaitė urged the newly appointed ambassador to help Georgia to participate actively in the EU Eastern Partnership programme. She said that Georgian leadership needed to continue the process of reforms in implementing the EU's requirements for a visa-free regime and in pursuing the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Giedrius Puodžiūnas, a graduate of history, has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993. He served in the Lithuanian Embassy in Poland, as head of the Protocol Department, as ambassador to Austria, accredited to Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, and Liechtenstein, also as Lithuania's permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Vienna. Before his appointment as ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Puodžiūnas was Director of the Information and Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador has been awarded the Cross of the Knight and the Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania. He speaks English, German, Polish, Russian, and French.
