Kriščiūnas met with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Kentaro Sonoura to discuss bilateral political and economic relations, cooperation on mainitaning international peace and security, aggression against Ukraine. The Foreign Vice-Minister thanked Japan for consistent support to Lithuania's OECD membership. According to Sonoura, Japan values Lithuania as a very important partner in the international arena and welcomes its involvement in activities of the United Nations Security Council.
During the visit, special attention was paid to bilateral economic ties, the strengthening of cooperation in the fields of energy and transport, and to attracting Japanese investment to Lithuania.
During the seminars at Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Embassy of Lithuania in Tokyo, Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister and representatives of Klaipėda State Seaport presented new opportunities for cooperation with Lithuania, the country's energy and transport infrastructure to Japanese businessmen and journalists.
Vice-Minister Kriščiūnas underlined that Lithuania's excellently-developed international transport infrastructure opened up wonderflul opportunities for Japanese producers to better reach the markets of the European Union and other neighbouring countries.
"Klaipėda is the only ice-free port on the east coast of the Baltic Sea, which can become a gateway for Japanese companies to the the region's large markets," said Rolandas Kriščiūnas.
The Lithuanian delegation led by the Foreign Vice-Minister has discussed opportunities for further development of economic ties also with representatives of KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Various cooperation projects were also discxussed with representatives of Japan-Lithuania Friendship Association and Japan-Lithuania Exchange Centre.
