Minister Linkevičius has informed the Director General of UNESCO about the Lithuanian candidacy to the UNESCO Executive Council for the term 2015–2019 and about the successful presidency of Lithuania at the UN Security Council as well as acitivities at other UN formats. A nomination request for the UNESCO Artist for Peace of the Lithuanian opera soloist Violeta Urmana was handed in to the Director General. Urmana would be the first Lithuanian artist to join this program.
During the meeting with the President of the UNESCO General Conference Hao Ping, support for UNESCO activities was expressed and bilateral cooperation with China on culture and education discussed.
During the meeting with the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, the two ministers stressed good bilateral cooperation and prospects of strengthening economic ties. Minister Linkevičius thanked his counterpart for the enhanced cooperation on security and defense and active participation in the NATO air policing mission to protect the Baltic air space.
The ministers agreed that migration needs to be addressed jointly, but it should be based on voluntary principle.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister thanked France for its support for Lithuania's accession to Economic Cooperation and Development and said that he expects further cooperation with French experts.
