"The Nordic and Baltic States share the same opinion that the EU should coordinate its efforts in finding countering propaganda. The EU needs strategic communication, which would be based on facts and openness, and would support independent media. In the face of Kremlin's aggressive propaganda, we are also calling on NATO to strengthen its strategic communications capabilities," said Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius following the NB8 meeting.
The Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers also discussed energy security and a single European energy market, which are essential in the creation of the Energy Union
The Foreign Ministers also discussed the run-up to the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, the future of the Eastern Neighbourhood programme and Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Lithuania's Foreign Minister underlined the need to support countries which had chosen the European path and to provide assistance in implementing reforms.
The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, which coordinates the NB8 activities this year. The conference "Energy Dialogue in the Baltic Sea Region" was also held on 6 May. The Nordic-Baltic format, known as NB8, was established in 1992.
