In response to severe devastation caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that has hit Nepal on 25 April, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Humanitarian Aid (GD ECHO) has allocated a primary emergency aid of EUR 3 million and sent 9 experts after the disaster, the EU member states have announced that they would allocate EUR 18 million to Nepal.
In response to international requests for humanitarian aid and initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has recently allocated humanitarian assistance to Syria, Ukraine, Vanuatu and the fight against Ebola.
EUR 40,000 in humanitarian aid will be donated to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Ukraine's internally displaced people and those who lost their homes. EUR 40,000 in humanitarian aid will be contributed to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for refugees in Syria. EUR 10,000 in humanitarian aid will be provided to the World Food Programme (WFP) for the fight against Ebola. EUR 10,000 in humanitarian aid will be allocated to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for the Vanuatu people.
Lithuania has provided more than EUR 440,000 in humanitarian assistance to help Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. Moreover, the country contributed EUR 10,000 in humanitarian assistance through the World Food Programme (WFP) for the fight against Ebola in 2014.
In 2012-2014, Lithuania channelled more than EUR 100,000 in humanitarian aid through the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Syria in crisis.
