At the meeting in Canberra on 23 March with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius informed her about Lithuania's preparations and implementation of the Action Plan for joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). "Membership in OECD is the most important goal for Lithuania now. I am glad to receive good evaluation from the Australian colleagues of Lithuania's efforts to start accession procedures to OECD," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy.
Linkevičius expressed his gratitude to Australia for cooperation within the United Nations Security Council in 2014. "The relationship between Lithuania and Australia is based on common values: democracy, respect for human rights and active participation in the international arena. The relationship is also strengthened by a numerous and active Lithuanian community in Australia," said the Foreign Minister.
During the weekend, Linkevičius visited Lithuanian communities in Melbourne and Sydney, met with members of the Australian-Lithuanian Business Council.
