Oksana Raiter, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Infrastructure responsible for European Integration, transferred a letter from Ukraine's minister of infrastructure to Rimantas Sinkevicius, Lithuania's Minister of Transport and Communications, in which it was asked for assistance.
Raiter met with Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Arijandas Sliupas and discussed about expert assistance. According to Raiter, Ukraine wishes to move from the post-soviet system and undertake urgent reforms needed to successfully implement the Association Agreement with the EU.
Ukraine is seeking to take over Lithuania's experience applying EU directives and decision-making in railway sector management, tariff policy and technical compatibility of the railway system. Ukraine is interested in Lithuania's practices in public and private partnership, accounting system of cargo movement in Klaipeda State Seaport and experience in modernising the mail sector.
Most of these issues will be discussed in early June in Odessa, at the meeting of Lithuania-Ukraine inter-governmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
