The conference annually brings together around 350 participants from more than 70 states. This year's conference will be attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
Taking part in the debate on challenges to European security will also be Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, and Finnish President Sauli Niinistö. The presidents will exchange views with diplomats from various countries, representatives of international organizations, scientists, public figures, businessmen, and analysts.
President Grybauskaitė will meet with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. The meeting will focus on regional security issues, Lithuania-U.S. relations, and the situation in Ukraine.
The Munich Security Conference is an annual international security event aimed at promoting discussions on current and future security challenges. Debates at the conference, which takes place on a yearly basis since 1963, address important global security issues and ways to deal with them.
During this year's conference, participants will discuss and explore ways to tackle newly emerging challenges for international security. Among the other points of discussion will be the crisis in Ukraine, the fight against terrorism and escalating situation in the Middle East, the problem of a growing flow of refugees.
