A State Police spokesperson mentioned a second person taken into custody in the case, but refrained from naming him. LETA reports that it is civil engineer Ivars Sergets.
LETA observed suspect Gulbis outside the court building being led to a car. He said nothing, refusing to comment.
Gulbis at this time is a board member of the Latvian architectural firm GP Projektu birojs". He also owns the majority of the company's shares – 70.29%.
Civil engineer of the Zolitude-Maxima supermarket that collapsed in November 2013 – Ivars Sergets, has been arrested by the police and is now being held as a suspect in the case, as Sergets' attorney Arturs Zvejsalnieks informed earlier LETA.
State Police Criminal Police Chief Andrejs Grisins, speaking at a press conference yesterday, said that "glaring errors are apparent even in the blueprints." He added that the investigation has reached the stage where "people are being named as suspects."
Grisins revealed that so far two individuals have been designated suspects in the case, along with one entity. The basic charge pertains to violations of construction norms that lead to collapse of building or any part of it.
Grisins mentioned that in this case "information released that is distorted can be detrimental to the continuing investigation, therefore, caution will be used."
The police chief declared that "even those whose duties were to supervise the construction job or control the process, will be held responsible."
"There could be other crimes committed in relation, that will be brought to light. But at this time we are clear on what role each person involved played, their negligence and inertia."
The suspect Gulbis is a board member of the Latvian architectural firm GP Projektu birojs. He also owns the majority of the company's shares – 70.2%. The remaining 29.41% of shares. belong to Martins Pundurs.
GP Projektu birojs representatives informed LETA that Gulbis has decided to refrain from any comments to the press.
