The award is given to three Baltic States for promotion of European ideas, peaceful struggle for freedom, successful handling of the economic crisis, achievements in implementing European reforms, and trust in the future of Europe.
According to the President, this award is the recognition of efforts and contribution by each and every Lithuanian citizen in building statehood. For Europeans, Lithuania and other Baltic nations is a model example of trust in their states and Europe.
"Golden Victoria" awards are presented annually by representatives of the influential German analytical media in four categories: promotion of pro-European ideas, promotion of European integration, business achievements and lifetime merits.
Taking part in the awards ceremony, where the Golden Victoria statuette will be presented to the heads of state of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, will be around 300 guests. The laudatio speech in honor of the Baltic States will be delivered by the President of the German Bundestag, Norbert Lammert.
In Berlin, President Dalia Grybauskaitė together with Latvian and Estonian Presidents will hold a meeting with President Joachim Gauck of Germany. The topics to be discussed at the meeting include the security situation in the region, information and energy security issues, measures aimed at boosting the EU's economic growth, and the strengthening of business relations.
This week Germany marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This symbol of the Iron Curtain was torn down on 9 November 1989.
