Donald Trump personally announced the details of the action in a post on his Truth Social network.
According to an anonymous US official cited by the New York Times, preliminary assessments of the impact of the bombing indicate the destruction of the Fordo uranium enrichment facility, tucked away inside the mountain. The strike was carried out using B-2 bombers to drop six 13-ton MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrators) penetrator bombs, the largest non-atomic bombs in the US arsenal. As Fox News reported, 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles were used in the attacks on the other centers.
The attack was the first direct US strike on Iranian territory since the failed attempt to recapture American hostages at the US embassy in Tehran in 1980.
Tehran's response
“The United States, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has committed a serious violation of the UN Charter, international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by attacking Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities,” - Abbas Aragczi wrote in a post on the X platform. He called the U.S. attack outrageous and added that it will have “eternal consequences.”
