The news of Pope Francis' death was announced before 10 a.m. from the chapel of the House of Saint Martha by the Kamerling of the Holy Roman Church, Cardinal Kevin Farrell.
‘Dearest brothers and sisters, it is with deep pain that I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7.35 this morning, Bishop Francis of Rome returned to the House of the Father,’ - Cardinal Farrell said. ‘His entire life here on earth was offered in the service of the Lord and His Church. He taught us to live faithfully the values of the Gospel, courage and universal love. He cared in a special way for the poor and the marginalised,’ - he added.
‘With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we entrust the Pope's soul to the infinite merciful love of the Triune God’. - Cardinal Kamerling concluded.
