The meetings are planned to address the security situation in the region, transatlantic and bilateral cooperation, assistance to Ukraine and achievement of lasting peace, as well as the agenda of the upcoming NATO Summit. Other topics to be discussed are security of undersea infrastructure, wider European engagement in collective defence and defence industry development.
The United Kingdom is one of Lithuania’s strategic security partners in security and defence. Lithuania and the United Kingdom develop close cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats: NATO, Nordic countries’. One of such formats is the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), a capability for primary emergency response, including undersea infrastructure incidents. The JEF enables resource pooling, sharing intelligence and finding multiple common solutions to mutual regional security challenges. The JEF comprises maritime, air and land capabilities contributed by ten Northern European participant nations. Lithuania will be contributing capabilities to the largest JEF Exercise Tarassis25 this autumn.
The UK has contributed to the security of the Baltic region through the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states, leading the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Estonia as the Framework Nation and sending personnel to the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Poland led by the U.S.
