The Foreign Minister welcomed the close and increasing bilateral relations between Lithuania and the United States and emphasized the importance of transatlantic cooperation for international security and the promotion of democracy worldwide.
“The U.S. leadership remains the cornerstone of the transatlantic community and Lithuania’s security, and Lithuania will continue to be a responsible U.S. partner, ready to actively contribute to the strengthening of the security and resilience of the transatlantic space,” Minister Budrys said.
The Foreign Minister and the U.S. Ambassador discussed ways to boost support for Ukraine, tighten sanctions policy, and ensure the international community’s effective response to the threats posed by autocratic regimes, including hybrid attacks and acts of sabotage. The Foreign Minister underlined that Lithuania highly appreciates the strong and consistent U.S. support to Ukraine.
Ambassador Kara C. McDonald is the 16th U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania. Lithuania and the United States established diplomatic relations in 1922. The U.S. never recognized Soviet occupation and annexation of Lithuania. Throughout the period of occupation, Lithuania’s independent diplomatic mission continued to operate in Washington, D.C., and Lithuanian tricolour was flown at the U.S. State Department.
