During the conversation, President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the need for an independent international investigation in response to numerous reports of irregularities in Georgia’s parliamentary elections held on Saturday. He underscored that the right of the Georgian people to transparent and democratic elections has to be respected.
President Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that previous decisions by Georgia’s ruling party have already set back the country’s prospects for European Union integration, and that potential irregularities in the electoral process are distancing this goal even further away from the Georgian people.
“Georgia’s civil society has repeatedly and boldly declared its commitment to a future within the European Union. No one has the right to take away their European dream. Lithuania will continue to stand by the choice of the Georgian people,” Gitanas Nausėda added.
