In his address, the Head of State underlined that Ukraine’s victory is the only way to bring peace and stability back to Europe, and that it is a prerequisite for the security of the entire transatlantic area.
“We need to make it clear that our strategic goal is the victory of Ukraine. So far, the actions of allies have not been sufficient to achieve victory. We need to consider all options of military support for Ukraine, in particular on the urgent and vital issue of providing air defense capabilities. As we prepare for the Washington NATO Summit, we need to find solutions to bring Ukraine at least one step closer to NATO membership,” the Head of State pointed out.
The President stressed that NATO allies should not be guided by the red lines drawn by Russia in their support for Ukraine. This, he said, makes the West too predictable, while maintaining strategic unpredictability is crucial for successful assistance efforts.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania has been and will continue to be fully committed to supporting Ukraine militarily. He also pointed out that Lithuania has contributed €35 million to the Czech initiative to buy ammunition for Ukraine and has joined the German air defense initiative and will transfer radars to Ukraine.
“Lithuania’s total support for Ukraine already exceeds €1 billion. Half of this amount is military assistance. We plan to allocate 0.25% of our GDP to support Ukraine every year,” the Head of State underscored.
