The President of Lithuania is the first Head of State to confirm his participation in Ukraine’s Peace Formula summit to be held in Switzerland in June. Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Lithuania supports and will support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula, and during a telephone conversation the Lithuanian and Ukrainian leaders discussed the preparations for the Summit.
The two leaders also discussed both the situation on the frontline and military support for Ukraine. “We are committed to continue our support for Ukraine and to allocate part of our GDP to support Ukraine’s defense and security,” President Gitanas Nausėda said. Lithuania’s assistance to Ukraine totals over €1 billion, about half of which is military aid, and this year alone Lithuania has already allocated almost €80 million to Ukraine.
Gitanas Nausėda also underlined that Lithuania appreciates Germany’s initiative to take an immediate action on Ukraine’s air defense and welcomes the decision to send an additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. “Lithuania will also join this initiative,” the Head of State pointed out.
Lithuania leads the demining coalition of Ukraine, which aims to pool and coordinate the existing and future demining support for Ukraine from donor countries. “Today, in the meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, I invited Germany to support this coalition with a financial contribution for the purchase of equipment needed by Ukraine,” the President said in a telephone conversation.
