A. Anušauskas and L. Austin are expected to discuss bilateral defence cooperation: presence of U.S. military personnel in Lithuania and acquisitions of arms from the U.S. The officials will also address assistance to Ukraine, NATO agenda, and the NATO Summit in Washington this summer.
The United States is one of the key Allies in ensuring the European security and one of Lithuania’s principal partners in defence equipment acquisition. Contracts on HIMARS and AMRAAM missiles were signed with the U.S. side in the recent years, while earlier defence acquisition contracts cover 500 armored Joint Light Tactical Vehicles JLTV, Black Hawk helicopters, Switchblade loitering ammunition. Apart from that, Lithuania has also been acquiring the Javelin antitank-rocket system and different communication equipment from the United States for years.
Since 2019, Lithuania hosts uninterrupted rotational U.S. Army battalion presence. Military personnel from two U.S. Amy battalions are serving at Pabradė at the moment.
