“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will eventually affect all of us. Thus, we can exclude no options for deterring Russia and supporting Ukraine at once. Discussions on this issue are welcome, and Lithuania is ready to participate actively,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis.
The Foreign Ministers also stressed the importance of coordination among the countries ahead of the NATO summit. “At the Washington Summit, we must make concrete decisions on deterrence and strengthening defence on the Alliance’s eastern flank and take steps towards Ukraine’s NATO membership. Further coordination among allies with similar positions on these issues is essential,” Landsbergis said.
At the meeting, the Foreign Minister also stressed that candidates for the post of NATO’s Secretary-General must listen to and understand the questions raised by countries of NATO’s eastern flank about responding to the threat of Russia and have a strategic and ambitious vision of responding to these challenges.
The diplomatic leaders who attended the meeting agreed to continue cooperating closely, coordinating actions to ensure security on the eastern NATO flank and help Ukraine.
