In his speech, the Ambassador noted that Lithuania strongly supported North Macedonia’s efforts to join the European Union faster and was ready to continue to share its expertise in integration into the EU.
The flow of history has put both countries to the grave test that has been overcome by the dedication and determination of their citizens. North Macedonia is an ally of Lithuania within the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Both NATO countries face the same security challenges and stand united in defending the international order built on the foundation of rules and democratic values. Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine has highlighted the fragility of peace in Europe, and we must remain united and decisive in strengthening Europe’s security against Russia and stopping its aggression.
When presenting copies of his letters of credence to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Fatmire Isaki, Borisovas noted that Lithuania was ready to intensify bilateral relations between the countries, increase mutual knowledge, and expand cooperation. To this end, Lithuania opened its Consulate in Skopje last December. The Ambassador-at-Large Vilma Dambrauskienė heads it.
Borisovas highlighted the need to exploit the potential of both sides to develop cooperation in digitalisation, green technologies and cybersecurity. 70 % of foreign direct investment in Lithuania is directed to information and communication technologies, life sciences, lasers and financial technologies. Lithuania, which is successfully implementing the digital transformation of public and administrative sectors, increasing cybersecurity and enhancing digital skills, is ready to share its experience with North Macedonia.
Borisovas also met with the President of the Assembly of North Macedonia Talat Xhaferi. The meeting focused on the importance of further communication and exchange of experience between the parliaments of both countries, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, and the need to intensify bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The interlocutors exchanged views on the security situation in the Balkan region and the world, stressing the need for comprehensive assistance to Ukraine.
