The President stressed that the invitation to Moldova to start negotiations on EU membership is a great recognition of the progress made by the country and, at the same time, a task for the coming months and years.
“Lithuania is hopeful that the negotiation process will start in March, ahead of the European Parliament elections, but before that Moldova needs to pull together to carry out the reforms and to do the remaining homework. Ukraine has today implemented all the European Commission’s recommendations, so Moldova should not fall behind in the process and should implement the remaining recommendations in the very near future,” President Gitanas Nausėda added.
The Head of State stressed that negotiations on EU membership require huge human resources as well as administrative and institutional capacities. “Lithuania can help Moldova in many areas, from sharing experience on how to organize the negotiation process, to combating disinformation,” Gitanas Nausėda pointed out.
