“We see Vietnam as a growing, stabilising force in both ASEAN and wider region. Lithuania wants to expand and deepen our partnership by diversifying supply chains, strengthening economic security and, at the same time, defending the rules-based international order. Today, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding between our two Ministries, which will give added impetus to move towards closer and deeper cooperation," Landsbergis said.
The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy welcomed the expanding cooperation in economy, energy and smart technologies.
“This is clear evidence that geographical distances don't matter when you meet a responsible and reliable partner,” Landsbergis said.
The Foreign Ministers in Hanoi also discussed support for Ukraine and developments in the Middle East.
“Both countries rely on a rules-based international order to ensure the safety and well-being of our people. Whether it be Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East or the future crisis, every violation of the international order will affect us all," Landsbergis said.
On Wednesday, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister will also meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Landsbergis is the first Lithuanian Foreign Minister to visit Vietnam.
From 24 to 31 October, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and the Lithuanian business delegation are visiting Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia.
