In their joint statement, the leaders of the 27 EU member states emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself under humanitarian and international law in the face of violent and indiscriminate attacks by Hamas.
The EU leaders called on Hamas to immediately release all hostages without any preconditions. They underscored the importance of the provision of urgent humanitarian aid and reiterated their readiness to continue supporting those civilians most in need in Gaza in coordination with partners, ensuring that such assistance is not abused by terrorist organizations.
The President of Lithuania and EU leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a lasting and sustainable peace based on the two-state solution and underlined the need to engage with the legitimate Palestinian authorities as well as regional and international partners.
