The Fire and Rescue Department received a plea for international assistance from Ukraine through NATO Civil Emergency Planning Committee. Ukraine has asked for means ensuring basic living conditions for people from Donetsk and Luhansk regions who have been displaced as a result of armed conflict. It is estimated that there are more than 190,000 such people.
Means needed to establish a camp for 100 evacuated people will be taken from the state reserve and transported to Ukraine. The shipment includes – sleeping bags, tents, folding beds, generators, heaters, blankets, thermos flasks etc. Cargo is evaluated at around EUR 64,000.
It was agreed with the Ministry of National Defence that goods donated by Lithuanians to the people of Ukraine and collected by the public enterprise Aspectus Memoria will be sent to Ukraine together with this shipment. Cargo will be transported on two trucks accompanied by logistics' experts. It is planned that the trucks will leave from Lithuania on 3 September.
As reported, one shipment of material support was transported to Ukraine on 2 September by the C-27J Spartan aircraft.
