In his meeting with Latvian Ambassador Solveiga Silkalna, the Head of State welcomed the friendship between Lithuania and Latvia and the excellent bilateral and multilateral relations. The meeting discussed issues related to security, support for Ukraine, common historical memory, economic cooperation, the fight against irregular migration and the protection of the EU’s external borders. The European Union’s agenda was also discussed, including support for Ukraine and military mobility funding, accelerating the Rail Baltica project and securing EU funding. Gitanas Nausėda welcomed the reached agreement on synchronization of electricity grids at the beginning of 2025. During the meeting, the President also touched upon the forthcoming Baltic Unity Day to be celebrated on 22 September.
President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated the Ambassador of India on becoming the first Indian Ambassador resident in Lithuania and expressed the hope that the newly opened Embassy in Vilnius will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations. According to the Head of State, bilateral trade is growing and there is a strong mutual interest in developing cooperation between businesses in the fields of lasers, life sciences, financial technologies, and the Internet of Things. The President also highlighted India’s prominent international role and its leadership as G20 chair. According to Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania and India are like-minded partners on a wide range of issues, such as support for democracy, fostering an international rules-based order and respect for international law.
During the meeting with the Danish Ambassador, the President noted the excellent bilateral relations between Lithuania and Denmark and the ambition to further enhance cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats. In the President’s view, we need to implement the decisions of the Vilnius NATO Summit, and work towards inviting Ukraine to join the Alliance next year in Washington. The Lithuanian leader also welcomed Denmark’s commitment to the security of the region, noting that Denmark has already contributed eight times to the air policing in the Baltic States, seven of them in Lithuania, and is deploying a battalion of troops to Latvia. President Gitanas Nausėda also welcomed the active Lithuanian community in Denmark, which is bringing the two countries even closer together.
