The President said that it was not only the fate of Ukraine that was being decided in that country but also the fate of the whole of Europe. Lithuania supported Ukraine's actions to protect the state from direct military invasion, she noted, adding that Ukraine could count on Lithuania's assistance within the EU and NATO.
Dalia Grybauskaitė further underlined that it was critically important to ratify the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement before the end of September and to continue the consistent implementation of democratic reforms.
The President pointed out that Lithuania would raise the question of support to Ukraine at the meeting with the U.S. President Barack Obama and at NATO's summit in Wales next week.
Lithuania contributes to alleviating the humanitarian situation in Ukraine: it has already allocated a total of 420 thousand litas in assistance and 150 thousand litas for the medical treatment of Ukrainians.
