The Head of State thanked the Latvian President for the close cooperation between the two countries and for his personal contribution to fostering relations between Lithuania and Latvia.
“Our two countries enjoy excellent political, economic and cultural ties, as well as joint initiatives to support Ukraine and the people of Belarus, to strengthen energy independence, and to preserve historical memory,” President Gitanas Nausėda spoke.
The Lithuanian leader stressed his deep appreciation for the Latvian President’s repeatedly expressed position on the common Baltic heritage, historical experience and the scars left by the Soviet occupation, as well as for the common approach to the regional and international security situation, the role of the European Union and the importance of the transatlantic ties.
“Latvia has always been a strong and trusted neighbor, friend, and ally of Lithuania. I am confident that our bilateral relations will continue to grow stronger and cooperation in all areas will become even closer,” the President underlined.
The two leaders also discussed further support for Ukraine, the key objectives of the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, the need to hold the aggressor Russia accountable for war crimes and crimes of aggression, and the need to further tighten sanctions against Russia and its satellite Belarus.
