During the ceremony, Davidonis expressed his satisfaction that Lithuania and Kuwait would celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. “We will continue to open up opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kuwait and Lithuania, especially by promoting mutual trade and investment,” Davidonis said. He also thanked Kuwait for its principled stance on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
During the meeting, the Ambassador conveyed the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis to pay an official visit to Lithuania.
During his visit to Kuwait, Davidonis also met with Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs of Kuwait Sami Abdulaziz Alhamad, Foreign Minister Assistant for Europe Affairs of Kuwait Sadiq M. S. Marafi, and the Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Emad A. Al-Zeid.
On 5 April 1994, Kuwait recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure. Diplomatic relations were re-established on the same day.
