During the conversation, President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the common values Lithuania and Latvia share and the friendship between the two countries.
“Lithuania and Latvia are close partners—we share a common history and experience, close cultural ties and a warm people-to-people contacts. I am happy about the common values we share, the respect for democracy and a rules-based international order, as well as strong cooperation in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,” the Lithuanian leader spoke.
The President stressed his appreciation for the common approach of Lithuania and Latvia to the security and defense of the region, and expressed his hope that the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July will reach significant decisions on strengthening the Baltic Sea region’s air and anti-missile defense, increasing deterrence capabilities, and sending a strong message regarding the co-operation between Ukraine and NATO and its belonging to the Euro-Atlantic security architecture.
Gitanas Nausėda wished the newly elected President of Latvia strength, determination, and every success in his new position and in working for the prosperity of his country and its people.
