“The British royal family has always been a symbol of stability in international politics, distinguished by its strong foundation of values. I trust that Charles III, like the late Queen Elizabeth II, will seek to foster ties with Lithuania, and that our countries will continue to successfully cooperate in light of the security challenges and threats facing the transatlantic area,” the President said.
Speaking after the coronation ceremony in London, Gitanas Nausėda said that Lithuania and the United Kingdom were not only trusted allies, but also like-minded countries, united by shared values, respect for freedom and democracy. According to the President, Lithuania and the UK maintain excellent bilateral relations in the fields of security and defense, and Lithuania looks forward to expanding cooperation in the future.
King Charles III has ties with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania—he is a descendant of Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania, and Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland Casimir Jagiellon (1427-1492), whose daughter Sophia married into the Hohenzollern dynasty in Brandenburg.
