“Sincere congratulations to you and all the people of Finland on this historic day! Finland’s formal accession to NATO as a full member reinforces the security of the Baltic Sea region and the entire Eastern flank of the Alliance. I am confident that we will successfully work together to meet the emerging threats and challenges, not only as close partners, but also as trusted allies,” Gitanas Nausėda spoke.
The Lithuanian leader said he looked forward to meeting the President of Finland at the NATO Summit in Vilnius. Timely adoption of new NATO defense plans, the strengthening of NATO air defense in the region, the increase of the Allied forces to a brigade level with all necessary capabilities in the Baltics—these objectives of the upcoming summit are key to our region, Gitanas Nausėda pointed out.
The President expressed his expectation to also congratulate Sweden on NATO membership and underlined that Lithuania was ready to work together to achieve this goal.
