“We see the Republic of Korea as one of the main like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific region, with which bilateral relations are gaining momentum,” Landsbergis said.
With the Ambassador, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister discussed ways to deepen political dialogue, inter-institutional relations and cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, with a particular focus on strategic areas such as laser technology, energy and life sciences. Landsbergis also underlined the aim of strengthening dialogue in security and defence in a bilateral format and within the framework of the NATO-Republic of Korea partnership.
Landsbergis thanked the Ambassador for the Republic of Korea’s support in condemning Russia’s brutal war and called for actively contributing to all aid to Ukraine. Lithuania expressed its support for the Republic of Korea’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.
The Republic of Korea is a strategically important country for Lithuania in the Indo-Pacific region. As Lithuania diversified supply chains in developed and stable markets in Asia and Oceania, trade between Lithuania and Korea grew by 39 % in 2021. In January-October 2022, trade increased by 26 % compared to the same period in the previous year.
In 2021, Lithuania and Korea marked the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Lithuania opened its embassy in Seoul in the same year.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Lithuania resides in Warsaw, Poland.
