Gitanas Nausėda underlined the importance of cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan and stressed that the new EU-Azerbaijan agreement remained a priority.
“We hope that the negotiations will be concluded soon. This agreement is important for the development of economic relations between the EU and Azerbaijan and in support of the Azerbaijani government’s ambition to diversify the country’s economy,” said the President, also welcoming the EU-Azerbaijan agreement on gas imports. President Gitanas Nausėda underlined the importance of Azerbaijan as part of the European Union’s efforts to diversify its gas supplies and switch away from imports of Russian energy resources.
During the meeting, the Presidents of Lithuania and Azerbaijan also discussed the security situation in the Caucasus region and the possibilities for a peaceful settlement of conflicts.
The Lithuanian leader invited the President of Azerbaijan and a business delegation to Vilnius for a return visit. During the visit of the President of Lithuania to Baku in 2022, the Lithuanian-Azerbaijani Business Forum was held, where seven memoranda of understanding for closer cooperation in the fields of trade, technology, digitalization, transport and logistics, innovation and small and medium-sized business were signed by university and business representatives of both countries.
