By deploying its sixth DCISM to the mission the Lithuanian Armed Forces contributes to the efforts of the international community in support of peace process in Türkiye. The main task of the DCSIM that it will carry out in cooperation with the Spanish contingent in the area of responsibility is to enable the operational commander to fulfil his mission by ensuring communications and IS support to the headquarters and information exchange among Allies.
Launched in 2012, the NS2T international operation aims to protect the southern part of Türkiye from potential missile and chemical attacks from the territory of Syria. The mission enhances Türkiye’s air defence capabilities and helps protect its citizens with a complex “ground-to-air” guide missile defence system linked with the NATO air defence system.
The DCISM of the Signal and IS Battalion often undergoes qualification enhancement courses in different NATO member states, takes part in international exercises and actual operations of the Alliance. It is the only company sized unit of the Lithuanian Armed Forces assigned to the NATO 3rd Signal Battalion on a standing basis. Deployed to multinational operations since 2013, DCISM troops have served in NATO missions in Türkiye, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
“In 2023 Lithuania will continue as an active participant of international security and stability efforts. As we fulfill our international commitments, we will continue looking for the most optimal solutions in the areas of operations alongside our Allies,” said Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas.
