‘I am happy that this meeting of the Lublin Triangle has taken place here in Kyiv, the capital of a free Ukraine, a country which is countering today aggressor’s strikes directed against the rules-based world order, and which is also defending the very principles of freedom and democracy. That is why the motto, For Your Freedom and Ours, shared by our nations a few centuries ago, is still relevant today – and it is an obligation we will follow. We confirmed today our agreement to consolidate the trilateral cooperation, particularly in defence and energy, and to seek bringing Russia to account for its crimes internationally, including through the establishment of an International Tribunal to probe the crime of aggression,’ said Prime Minister Šimonytė.
The Joint Statement condemns the systematic war crimes committed by the Russian military, including deliberate and indiscriminate attacks against the civilian population and elements of the civilian infrastructure, the forced deportation by the Russian occupiers of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, including children, from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia; it emphasizes the need to increase pressure on Russia through international sanctions, thereby undermining its ability to continue the war and commit these and other crimes in Ukraine, and it underlines the need for further international isolation of the aggressor state.
Prime Minister Šimonytė assured that the assistance to Ukraine, which, in fact, has been provided since way before the military invasion on 24 February as part of the initiative from the Government, the people, and businesses of the country, will continue, so as to help Ukraine to withstand the difficult winter ahead.
In response to Ukraine’s needs to ensure the energy infrastructure running, Lithuania will offer EUR 2 million to this effect in the near future, said the Lithuanian Prime Minister at the meeting. Lithuania will also continue its humanitarian aid to internally displaced people in Ukraine.
The Lublin Triangle Meeting of Prime Ministers in Kyiv on Saturday was the second since the format came to be. Prime Minister Šimonytė invited the third meeting to Lithuania next year.
